LOUIS LIPPS
Wide Receiver
1984-91
Resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

What is your current job and what does it entail?

I am a Mortgage Banking Officer with Steel City Mortgage Services, Inc. and it entails the processing of New Home Purchases/Refinancing/Home Equity Loans and Commercial Properties. Also, I do a lot of public relations for the company.

What is the fondest memory from your playing career?

Being voted the Pittsburgh Steelers "Rookie of the Year" and being the first Steelers rookie to have his name engraved on the statue of one of the greatest defensive lineman to ever play the game for whom the award was named , "THE JOE GREENE GREAT PERFORMANCE AWARD".

What was your best game?

My best game was opening day of my rookie year (1984) against the Kansas City Chiefs, I got the chance to start the game and had six receptions, 183 yards and two touchdowns. It was my very first game as a starter/Steeler and my first catch was an 80-yard touchdown from David Woodley.

What did you like most about playing for the Steelers?

The fans, the Rooney's and Three Rivers Stadium. What an awesome feeling!! I get asked that question all the time and it's the kind of feeling that you can tell someone about, but the only way to feel it is to experience it!! The only way to do that was you had to be a member of the PITTSBURG STEELERS!!

Teammate you were closest to during your playing days and why?

I was close to a couple of the guys, but it would have to be John Stallworth. In my rookie year we were roommates both in training camp and during the season and it lasted until he retired. He showed me how to keep everything in perspective and what I would have to do to be able to compete in this league.

Do you still keep in touch with former teammates?

Yes, I do keep in touch with several of the guys. For the most part a lot of the guys who I didn't play with reside here in the city so I see them a lot more than the guys I played with.

Who is the one player you think should definitely be on the 75th season team?

Wow! They are so many deserving names on that list, because of the sudden impact he made on me when I arrived in Pittsburgh I would have to say John Stallworth, great teacher, great person and super athlete. Some days at practice I would sit back and just watch this guy operate and he was just so smooth the way he ran his routes. It was one of the best teaching tools a young player could ever have.

Do you still follow the Steelers and if so, how closely?

Yes, I do follow them. I do Sports Radio/TV shows so I have to be on top it all the time.
